The "Large" size of the "ruck-tote", a bag that crosses a rucksack with a tote.
One size larger than the first ruck-tote model, it makes taking things in and out even smoother. A newly added inner pocket also improves storage.
Because a tote bag has its handles and opening at the "top", you can check inside and take things in and out while it hangs from your shoulder. A rucksack, on the other hand, has its straps at the "side", so it sits close to the body, and with padded, adjustable straps it is less tiring to carry. Wanting to combine the convenience of both, we designed a bag that feels like a rucksack on the move, yet lets you take things in and out as smoothly as a tote.
The bag is a slightly irregular pentagon. This shifts the center of gravity, so the heavier the contents, the more the handle turns "sideways" and the more it carries like a one-shoulder rucksack. Tilt the bag a little and the opening turns "upward", so it can be used like a tote. The shoulder strap details and hardware are as "rucksack-like" as possible, while the fabric is deliberately a "tote-like" canvas, so that the hybrid nature of the bag shows not only in function but visually as well.

Born in Canada in 1977. Completed a master's degree in architecture at Waseda University in 2002 and founded design office nendo the same year. Named one of Newsweek's "100 Most Respected Japanese", he has received numerous international design awards including EDIDA "Designer of the Year" (2012). His major works are held in museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He designed the Olympic cauldron for TOKYO 2020 and the new train cars for France's TGV high-speed rail, and currently serves as general producer of the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
